Pranam To My Guru Krsna.
Since childhood I had grown up listening to Meerabai's bhajan's
and even now every time I put them on I just become lost listening to them.
Bhajan’s sung by Lataji and Vani Jayaram I had heard on radio as mummy used to
have the radio playing while she was working.
As I grew older I
listened to them on the cassette player, later on Youtube and phone. The
sweetness of the lyrics used to touch a cord somewhere within and I used to
wonder at their meaning. As I did not understand the true meaning many times I
played them literally in a loop hoping to get at least an inkling! When that
did not happen I ended up taking an absolute literal meaning of them. I had often
asked my mother as a child about it and she used to smile sweetly and tell me
that it is what I am hearing, on my insistence she used to say that I will
understand when the time came. I even asked my Guruji and he said the same.
A bhajan which
really enthralled me was and is, 'Shyam Mane Chakor Rakhoji' Literal meaning
is, Meerabai is requesting Shyam
(Krsna) to keep her as his servant. And
while doing the work she will get his darshan.
One morning while cooking, this was just after our The Bhagvad Gita’s
Satsang’s had started, this bhajan was playing in the background on my phone. I
was contemplating on the meaning of this bhajan in my today’s life’s context as
Guruji had mentioned that there is a meaning. A little amount of understanding had
come while listening to the satsang and as I listened to the bhajan in a loop,
it’s deeper meaning came to me.
My understanding of ‘Shyam Mane Chakor Rakho Ji’
Shyam is the life force within me which keeps me alive and Mane is
I, I am the body/tool!
So Meerabai is asking Shyam to make her his tool and Him the
operator.
Like I wrote in my previous blog, I believe we are put on earth to
fulfill a purpose, so when the Lord makes us His tool then the purpose of this
life gets fulfilled! Ramkrishna Parmahansa used to say that he was the tool and
Ma Kali is the operator.
Another line is, ‘Chakari me darshan pawu’
When I perform my duty faithfully as prescribed, I will be blessed
with your holy vision. My life will be fulfilled when I get the Darshan of my
Lord!
Laki humbly places her learnings at her Guru Krsna’s feet and
entreats Him to guide her.
Om Shri Guru Krsna.
